Flourescent Revolution

Fluorescent light bulbs are really neat. They are basically fluorescent light sticks twisted into a spiral that fits into your traditional home light bulb socket. These bulbs are so energy efficient you will save $40 on your lighting bill, PER BULB, over the life of the bulb (about 5 years). Imagine what a house full would do! They have come way down in price over the years, each costs about $1.50.

Even with all that, people still aren't buying these little wonders. How hard is it to put in a light bulb anyways? It only take 3 blondes to do it! Wal-Mart has started a new initiative to sell 100 million fluorescent bulbs this year. WAL MART PEOPLE! Not only is Wal-Mart on top of this, but a new website called www.onebillionbulbs.com is urging you to update your home too!

According to the site, "Compact fluorescent light bulbs typically consume 65% - 75% less electricity than regular light bulbs. And they last up to 10 times longer than regular bulbs. The bottom line is that you'll save money by replacing standard light bulbs with CFL bulbs."

Here is an awesome story from NPR on the bulbs.

Here is the Energy Star website with tons of facts about these special bulbs.

AND go Here to buy a 6 pack at Wal-Mart.com. No this isn't an ad for Wal-Mart, but they are taking a lead on this and we should reward baby-steps

I challenge you to go buy one for every socket in your house. If every American replaced just one bulb with one of these fluorescent lights, it would be the equivalent of taking 1,000,000 cars off the roads. WOOHOO!
